Will eating after 7pm cause me to gain fat?

I am sure that you have all heard this one before?

“Do not eat after 7 pm or it will store as fat!”

It is a common one that surfaces still from time to time.

And one that still catches many people out.

I have to be honest.

This was one that I used to think held some weight early in my career.

Due to this myth being peddled so hard by people.

That was at least until I turned into a super geeky nutrition nerd who studied science.

So…

Let me put your mind at ease here.

Eating after a certain time at night will not cause you to gain fat.

No matter whether you are consuming carbs, protein, or fats.

It is just not how the body works and anybody who tells you any different should be avoided.

The only way you will gain fat if you eat after a certain time at night is if you are eating in an overall calorie surplus.

Not because the magic fat fairies have decided that it’s time to store fat just because it is one minute past 7 pm.
